The light fixture project was an introductory lesson to sketch up, and how to utilize the digital design program. I started off by researching material to form a conceptual idea of what the general approach of the light fixture design would be. I soon came across the idea of interconnecting existing eye eye-catching objects with existing fixture designs. I concluded that involving biomimicry originating from natural plantation would best blend with a light fixture design to provide an eye-catching light source unlike other bland conventional common fixture designs. After extensive study on various types of plants that would serve as initial conceptual designs, I concluded that the intricate looking succulent plant would be the best candidate to base the architecture of the light fixture design off of. I then visually dissected the form of the succulent in order to rearrange, alter and create various new experimental pieces to shape together the light fixture with. The next step was choosing what type of form I wanted my light source to embody, I then chose the state of a celling light because the light fixture sizing would be much greater, providing and even more eye-catcher sense of space compared to smaller light sources like a small desk stand light. Once the components were picked out, I then started outlining and creating the final sketched light fixture which was narrowed down to vertically orientated flat leaf shaped pieces made of frosted glass, a triangular celling platform made of anodized aluminum where the light fixture would hang from, and finally horizontally orientated flat leaf pieces stretching from one end to another on all three sides made of light-colored wood.
