Micro-House
Assigned task was to design and build a model of a micro house in a casual SF lot. I pared up with a good friend of mine for the last 11 years, Isaiah. Once the team was formed, we decided on where we would place our micro house at in order to take advantage of the many factors that would benefit the building/s in many ways. With conceptual work at hand, we decided to concentrate on the importance and weaknesses of what a micro house is all about. although micro houses are perfect for individuals, couples and to some degree small families. These types of projects tend to be restricted by the size of the lot in terms of creating a reasonably sized compound for all of the clients. We agreed of simplistic organization as our base concept as well as our foundation of ideas. Moving on we noted all the required fundamentals a relatively small house would require for example Natural lighting, wall orientation, kitchen, living room, bathroom, bedrooms, back/front yard, etc. In terms of design, we decided that a 3-story cubed structure would fit perfectly with the requirements, having the building formatted in a simplistic way is as we thought the most efficient yet elegant way of placing everything in a orderly fashioned way. Two buildings would be made on each side followed by some spacing of a cemented surfacing of the rear of the building. It's enclosed by a wooden fence with a opening space of a door's width in the right side of fence. This leads to a shared backyard, consisting of palm trees, fountain grass and other grass patches, as well as a pond on the west side of the lot backed up by a cemented passage that routes from the norther micro house to the southern house. The first floor would consist of the living room as well as the front door and rear door towards the shared backyard with 3 cornered window openings. Second floor would be the dining area right next to the kitchen with all four sides of the wall consisting of thick-walled window. Thin metal bars would be placed on the exterior side of the window in order to provide shade against the sun from various degrees. a vertical curtain big enough for each wall would be placed in order to provide privacy when needed or overall cover against the sun. For the 3rd and last floor, the bedroom along with a bathroom would be integrated within the top floor. With 3 sides consisting of window openings the 4th corner would be the placement of the bathroom in order to conceal that area and provide privacy to the client when in use. all of the floors would be accessible by a spiral staircase that would lead from the first-floor left hand side to the third-floor left hand side, lightened with a skylight consisting of glass to provide natural lighting along the way.
